Hi, I am Herold Pazhunnana Charles, and my native is in Thrissur district, Kerala state, India. My father worked in Madras Atomic Power Station, Tamil Nadu, and so my schooling days were in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. I stayed with my mother and elder sister in Kalpakkam for nearly 17 years and then shifted to Coimbatore for undergraduate studies. I earned my B.E. in electronics and communication engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology. Until then, all my friends were from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, making me fluent in Tamil and Malayalam. Right from the days when I used to see Dexter’s Laboratory on Cartoon Network, I was always inclined to create stuff like him, and ya even tried building a secret lab;-P. I would be in the front row for all the school science exhibitions and drawing competitions. That interest grew as a passion and made me learn design tools like Photoshop, 3dsmax, etc., from online courses during my engineering college days. Later, I joined a company named Aricent Technologies in Chennai and worked as a software developer for 3.3 years. Even though I started as a software developer, I grabbed an opportunity to do UI design-related work out of passion. I also had a short stint as a User Interface designer for a company named Exterro for three months. After clearing CEED (Common Entrance Exam for Design), I joined IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay, to pursue an M.Des in Interaction Design. Two years of IDC was a roller coaster ride where I realized more about myself than understanding design. After graduation, I worked as a Research Associate at IDC School of Design for a year. During this period, my interest in the domain of education grew and made me realize the tremendous possibilities of applying design to this field. Subsequently, I finished my Ph.D. in Educational Technology at the Centre for Educational Technology, IIT Bombay. After my father’s retirement, my parents settled back in Kerala. I am married with a baby girl, and my wife is a practising prosthodontist.
